EASTER

Easter is the most important festival in the Christian church and you will in fact, see a lot of people at church who don't usually go!
Easter is named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess of the dawn and spring, and falls on a Sunday between 22 March and 25 April, according to the calendar.
It is a time of fun and celebration, because not only is it the end of the winter but also the end of Lent.
Easter is the time of year when people get chocolate eggs, chocolate chicks, chocolate rabbits and many more chocolate things.
Many people believe in the Easter bunny that delivers the chocolate eggs and the other stuff. The bunny is never seen because it comes in the dead of night!
The nicest part of Easter are the "Hot Cross Buns".hot cross buns These are traditionally eaten on Good Friday. They have a cross on them, which probably represents the cross of Christ and the Crucifixion.
"Simnel Cake"simnel cake is also eaten at Easter. It is decorated with 11 balls of marzipan, which represent the disciples of Jesus, excluding Judas the traitor.

Fish and Meat
Meat used to be forbidden on Good Friday and so people eat fish instead.

A young spring lamb is traditional on Easter Sunday; the lamb symbolises the innocence of Christ. It is best eaten with roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy. Then you put this delicious "mint sauce" on the meat;-). Everybody - except the British - start screaming, "yuk!" - but don't, because it tastes delicious.

Preston, Lancashire, is in the north of England, and there you will find the best "Egg Rolling" competition in the country. This takes part on Easter Monday. Eggs are boiled and taken to the park. The eggs are then rolled down the steep grassy slopes (they really are steep in that area). The winner is the egg, which survives the most rolls.
