POVERTY SCRIPT



NARRATOR: Once upon a time, there were two beautiful girls whose parents had lots of money. They were happy buying clothes, shoes, going to luxurious hotels, spas,…
CLAIRE:  Last Saturday I met Eli. She told me she had left her boyfriend and I got shocked.
MARY:  I can´t believe it. Her family was middle class  and he is very good looking. They didn´t make a good couple. I have seen in a store shoes that go very well with the pink dress that you bought yesterday.
CLAIRE:  Let´s go, then.
CURTAINS CLOSE
NARRATOR:  In another part of the city there was a poor girl on the brink of madness. Her family had no money to buy food and they had a baby girl to feed.
JULIA:  This is unfair…I´m hungry, my sister is hungry…My parents can´t pay the rent…I`m hopeless.
CURTAIN CLOSES
JULIA SITTING ONSTAGE LOOKING AT PEOPLE
NARRATOR:  While the two girls were shopping, the poor girl wandered around looking sad.
CLAIRE AND MARY TRYING ON SHOES
MARY: I had the pedicure done yesterday. It was only 100 pounds.
CLAIRE: Oh, having the pedicure done is more important than the manicure.
MARY: Yes, to wear sandals it´s vital to have the pedicure well done.
CLAIRE: Yes, it´s the most important thing
SHOE SALESMAN: But if they are too small for you…You should try a bigger size.
MARY:  Let´s go to that shop that´s opposite.
CURTAINS CLOSE
NARRATOR: While the two rich  girls were going from store to store, poor Julia was walking behind them asking them something to eat. Suddenly, Julia sees a lottery ticket on the floor.
JULIA:  Excellent, thank you for this gift that God has given me. I will check…Oh, a newspaper…I can´t believe my eyes!! It´s a winning ticket!!!!
NARRATOR: Julia felt thrilled…
JULIA: I will give part of my money to my parents and with the rest of the money I will help all the poor people I know!!!
THE RICK GIRL TALKS ON THE PHONE….
MARY: What about dad? It can´t be true!! Oh, my God!!! Daddy has invested all the money on a project that has not worked!!
CLAIRE: Oh, no!! What about my clothes, my perfumes, all my stuff!!!
CURTAINS CLOSE
JULIA TALKING TO HER BABY SISTER
JULIA:   Oh, dear Anna, how happy I am!! Now you will have a better future, you and all the poor people we know. We will have a place to stay and food to eat. Thank you, my Lord (LOOKING AT THE SKY)
CURTAINS CLOSE
NARRATOR: So… the story changed completety, the poor girl became rich and the rich girls became poor. Let´s help people as we may become poor one day.
